This update brings a whole revamp to the farming system along with new items to help you keep your crops in perfect condition as well as other improvements and fixes.

Halloween is over, trees are fixed and more optimizations, fixes and improvements.

  • Added team chat.
  • Added chat pop-up menu when clicking a chat message.
  • Added chat muting.
  • Added "mutelist", "unmute" and "unmuteall" console commands.
  • Added Hover Loot, default keybind is hold H.
  • Can now hold down on the Give, Take and Drink buttons to automatically transfer water.
  • Added new map marker for multiple vending machines in close proximity
  • Added teleportlos admin console command to teleport along the line of sight
  • Can open debug log file from console screen
  • Added in game report system (halloween patch)
  • Added notification system on main menu

  • Campfire flames and smoke now move directly upward, even if placed on a slope.
  • Large furnace can be placed on world layer (rocks)

Steam Awards - Rust Nomination

The annual Steam Awards nominations have started and we hope you’ll vote for Rust to win the “Labor of Love” award.

Rust is nearly 6 years old now and it’s got better every year with more people playing it than ever. In the last year or so alone we’ve seen vehicles from boats[rust.facepunch.com] and hot air balloons to minicopters[rust.facepunch.com] and also horses[rust.facepunch.com] with horse armor[rust.facepunch.com]. We added new areas like the Scientist Compound and the Bandit Town[rust.facepunch.com] plus of course, Monuments like the Oil Rig[rust.facepunch.com]. We put electricity[rust.facepunch.com] in the game. In the last few months we introduced Killer Mummies at Halloween, the most epic trees you’ve ever seen and (soon) we’ve got our first ever DLC with musical instruments like the Wheelbarrow Piano and Canbourine. Also, Rust looks and plays a hell of a lot better than in Legacy days, so there’s that.

We’re really grateful for all the support the Rust community has shown over the years and we hope this award will recognise that too. All you need to do is click the `Labor of Love 2019` box above for our eternal gratitude!

The Instrument DLC Update

The Instruments DLC pack is now available on Steam for purchase with a 10% launch discount! It includes 10 new instruments with a completely overhauled music input system as well as MIDI support for actual hardware input from compatible devices.

Not sure what all of this is about? The Instrument Pack is our first paid DLC which includes 10 new playable instruments. They all use a completely overhauled music system that allows you to play specific notes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G) across multiple octaves. They also support MIDI input, so you can hook up physical instruments as well as a variety of MIDI related software to really unleash your musical abilities.

The pack includes:

Season's Beatings!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone! The Christmas Event is once again live! If you haven't been around for this before, here's what you can expect:

Every once in a while you will hear the sound of jingle bells. Run outside and look for a gift! Two gifts are spawned per player, in a radius of about 40m from where you are standing. Run up and bash it open to receive your Christmas presents. They come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. If you have enough small presents stashed, you can "trade up" to a medium. If you choose to unwrap a present, the contents in each will vary. I won't blow the surprise here, but you'll find a mix of resources, weapons, and candy. Some players may receive coal for being absolutely worthless human beings.

Once again, you will be able to find Santa hats and reindeer antlers, both of which can be worn and provide a decent amount of protection. There’s also a lickable candy cane club, and two types of stockings. If you hang a stocking inside your base when the jingle bells ring the stocking will fill up with loot. The larger stocking has a higher chance for better items and both last around 5-10 refills.

You may notice a different look to a few other aspects of the game but we won't spoil them here. Have fun!

We've also added some holiday themed items to the Rust Item Store including some Deluxe Christmas Lights, Check them out!

  • Fixed scientist loot panel displaying random numbers - now reads "Scientist"

Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar new year to everyone! To help everyone celebrate we have added some new items to the Steam item store.

First off, throughout the Lunar New Year celebration everyone will be able to craft a set of throw-able firecrackers to make a racket. Traditionally set off to scare away evil spirits, many people would set them off when opening the front door before they went out. We somehow doubt these will scare off a dedicated door camper but you can try!

New Year Gong

A very large, very loud gong. You can hit it or shoot it and even play music on it as the note changes based on where it is struck.

Rat Mask

To celebrate year of the rat we have created a beautiful bronze and gold Rat Mask. Similar to last years Dragon Mask, it replaces the wolf headdress.

Fireworks

We've added three styles of fireworks which come in two different packages. The Small Fireworks package contains Roman Candles and Volcano style fireworks but if that isn't big and loud enough for you we've added a Large Fireworks package which contains Mortar style shells which create huge colored starbursts in the sky and can be seen for many miles. In addition to 5 different colors, the the Large Fireworks package also contains a Champagne style Mortar which creates the largest and most impressive display of pyrotechnics.

In addition to this year's new items, we’ve added two items from last years sale back to the item store, the Dragon Door Knocker and the Chinese Lantern

The Igniter is a new IO entity that you can use to ignite nearby items - including Fireworks, Campfires, Furnaces, Lanterns, unexploded Beancan grenades and Satchel Charges. While powered the Igniter will automatically start spraying out sparks, igniting anything in a radius that it has line of sight to. Use them to wire up remote firework displays!Much like the Tesla Coil, the Igniter takes damage while it's running so you won't be able to run it forever without repairs.An item like this would usually be released in a start of month update rather than an event update but we felt that the Igniter would be really useful for setting off fireworks so we brought it forward to this update.

Happy Easter!

For the next week, once every in-game day an easter egg hunt will begin. You'll have 3 minutes to collect as many eggs as you can. The top 3 players are given special eggs as a reward. These eggs can be cracked open for various types of loot ranging from scrap all the way up to an M249!

If you don't make the podium, that's okay. The painted eggs you collect can be upgraded to Bronze eggs once you collect 10. If you collect 10 bronze eggs then you can upgrade to a silver egg, eventually all the way to gold!

There are various items available to help you during your hunt. The Easter Basket will allow instant pickup of eggs and the Bunny Onesie and Ears will provide you an advantage via Egg Vision.

This year we've added two new Rustigé Eggs, each has a new monument with their own associated rust theme.

We've also added a new Nest Hat which functions as a replacement for the wolf headdress. Yes, the eyes are googly.

Rust Vehicles Public Testing

Rust will soon be getting modular cars that players can modify and drive around. With this being a major new feature, we're releasing it initially in a separate version of the game, which is available to try right now.

Our aim with this new beta branch is to allow for plenty of testing not just in terms of fixing bugs, but also in adjusting how the new vehicles fit into the game as a whole. Various aspects may potentially still change such as how they're acquired and used, or balance to their costs and statistics. Please be aware that right now there will be bugs and missing features in this branch.

If you're trying out the vehicles branch, we'd like to get your bug reports, plus any suggestions for changes you think are needed relating to modular cars. The end goal is to have modular cars fit well into the game as something where the value is equal to the time and energy required to use them.

Rust+, the official companion app for Rust, is out now! Stay connected to the game so you never miss an important moment again. Coordinate with your team, receive alerts when you’re being raided, remotely set off traps, and more!

Pair with your Servers

Pair with your favorite Rust servers to receive real-time updates for the things that matter the most: player counts, current game time, online teammates, and more. You’ll also get (optional) push notifications whenever one of your teammates joins the game.

Explore the Map

View the full server map to find points of interest, see where your teammates are and check on vending machines. You can also track ongoing events like the attack helicopter and cargo ship.

Keep up with your Team

Communicate with your team from anywhere to just catch up or plan for your next raid. Messages are visible in both the app and the in-game team chat so you can seamlessly switch between the two.

Control your in-game Devices

Connect Smart Switches and Smart Alarms to your in-game electrical contraptions and pair them with Rust+ to control them remotely at any time. Smart Switches let you turn things on or off, and Smart Alarms send customizable push notification alerts when an electrical signal is detected.

Back in May we introduced a special Beta branch which included the new work-in-progress modular cars. This later made it into Staging, and now modular cars have reached the main game.

Sunburn DLC

Surfs Up

The Sunburn DLC is our second premium DLC for Rust, including 15 new summer themed items for you to enjoy with your team. Gear up in some swimwear, take to the seas, relax by the pool, get into a water fight and take some photos to remember the summer!

Just like the Instruments DLC everything included in this pack (except for the custom underwear) can be used by anyone, even if they haven't purchased the DLC. Make sure to craft some tubes for your friends!

Custom Underwear

We've added the ability for you to change your underwear as part of this update so you can swap out those grungy undies with some bright summer styles. You'll notice a new icon next to your player avatar in the Inventory where you can select from the available options. This works a little differently from normal items as it's not something you have to equip or craft, and your choice of underwear will be remembered when you die.

There are 4 different styles to choose from with Male and Female versions of each.

Boogie Board and Inner Tube


The Boogie Board and Inner Tube are two new deployable vehicles that let you take to the ocean in style. Pop one down in any body of water and you can paddle around to your heart's content.

The Inner Tube is a bit slower but can turn easily, while the Boogie Board is built for speed but can't turn as well. You can also equip items while on an Inner Tube, so feel free to shoot your team mates with a water gun while catching some waves. The Boogie Board has 7 visual styles while the Inner Tube has 8 styles.

Paddling Pool

Once filled up, the Paddling Pool acts as a water source for your Boogie Board and Inner Tubes. Includes 5 different styles.

Above Ground Pool

The Above Ground Pool is a massive pool with plenty of space for aquatic activities. As well as including a large pool, it also includes a deck area where you can deploy other props like chairs, instruments and turrets.

Beach Towel

The Beach Towel is a new item that acts as a respawn point. While it works really well on the beach and by the pool, it will work anywhere you can use a Sleeping Bag. Comes in 8 styles so you can stand out on the beach.

Beach Recliner, Parasol and Table



This furniture set includes three separate props to style your above ground pool. The Recliner is a large chair where you can kick back and relax, the Parasol is a large umbrella that reduces the temperature for any players underneath it, and the Table is a small surface that goes well with the rest of the furniture. The Parasol and Recliner have 8 different colour schemes to pick from.

Sunglasses

Shield your eyes from the hot sun with the new equippable Sunglasses. Provides no protection, but they look really cool. Includes 9 different styles so you can really express yourself.

Instant Camera

Snap photos of your summer fun with the Ontara Pro instant camera. You can write messages onto the photos and share them with others like notes. Each camera can take up to 30 photos.

The camera has a zoom feature which can be adjusted by dragging with the right mouse button pressed. It can also switch between infinite, auto, or manual focus using the reload button. Manual focus can be adjusted with shift+right mouse drag.

Photo Frames


You can place your photos into these new deployable photo frames to show them off to the world. Hold E on them to access its inventory and swap the photos out. You can also paint over the frame like signs!

Water Guns



Water fights - to the death!

Grab a water gun, fill it up from a water source and go on a splashing spree!

Soak your mates or enemies (as long as they have a water gun equipped, too) enough and they'll start to take water damage.

The water pistol has a low output and range, but doesn't require pumping. The larger water gun has increased range and output but will need pumping to maintain its extended range. The large gun comes in 5 colours for easy friend and foe identification.

We've added a mixing table to create teas which provide time limited boosts as well as other items to craft, conditional roof tiles, a wooden barricade and an armoured passenger module for the vehicles along with various other fixes and improvements.

  •   Fixed cars and minicopters being unusable on load if the game was saved while they were starting their engines
  •   Fixed car collisions with horses not always registering if hit at high speed
  •   Fixed explosion forces not always knocking cars around if the car was empty and stationary

  •   Fixed getting dismounted while flying low over AirWolf on HapisIsland
  •   Fixed supply drop flying away after getting hit by projectiles
  •   Fixed spiral stairs not adding to upkeep and decay costs
  •   Fixed tesla coil receiving damage through walls
  •   Better audio bundle layout (build time optimization)
  •   Vehicle lift bounds updated so it can now fit in a smaller T-shaped area
  •   Engine internal items no longer decay along with the car, and take 50% less damage when the engine module is damaged
  •   Reduced car collision damage by 50%
  •   Cars on a powered vehicle lift no longer decay
  •   Collisions with humans or animals now apply a force and damage back to the car itself
  •   Individual panels on car modules now have their own gibs
  •   Increased ability to drive vehicles up steep slopes
  •   New carstats console command gives admins detailed info about all the cars in the world
  •   Running forwards while deploying a Boogie Board will now apply some forward movement to the board
  •   Hostile UI marker will only show when within 200m of a safe zone
  •   Doors will now check for vehicle blockages while opening
  •   Sunburn DLC Pools can now accept salt water
  •   Reduced bone arrow thickness
  •   Vehicle parts crate now spawns with two vehicle components
  •   Removed middle building pocket from horseshoe cave (Balance)
  •   Water pumps are now faster and each pump yield more water
  •   Above ground swimming pool HP increase
  •   Multiple sell order balance cost changes
  •   Removed animation from water/fluid pump

Boat Vendor Update

Long gone are the days of having to roam the shores of the Rust island in hopes of finding a seaworthy vessel. You'll now be able to acquire a Rowboat or a RHIB at one of the three new fishing villages we've added to the game. Here's the run down:

  • You'll now find 3 Fishing villages around the map varying in size.

  • Boats are no longer procedurally spawned along the beach and ocean and instead can be purchased from the Boat vendor found at the Fishing villages, 250 for rowboat / 400 for RHIB.
  • Fishing villages are safe zones and hostile action will result in a swift death.
  • If you're unable to afford a rowboat, you can opt to purchase the blueprint for a Kayak & paddle which you can then craft yourself any time.
  • You can also purchase each piece of scuba gear at the fishing village

Moving forward, you can expect to see some more NPC Villages added to the game (stables anyone?) as well as seeing the impact of these micro monuments have in the game increasing. We're working on a mission system which will allow players to acquire items and blueprints from means other than simply farming scrap, and you'll likely find the mission providers here first.

This update brings an elevator for easy travel between floors of your base, A real life Rust chair that gives you an exclusive in game chair too, The Spacesuit skin for the Hazmat outfit, changes to roads and added trails as well as the usual balancing and optimisations.
